Q stands for Quercetin. Quercetin is the primary ingredient in Q Energy. Q Energy has been developed as a healthy alternative to the high caffeine, high sugar sports performance and energy drinks that dominate the market. Quercetin is the key ingredient that makes Q Energy effective.
Quercetin is a bioflavonoid derived from fruits, plants and vegetables. Studies have shown quercetin to provide sustained energy, offer health and immune system support and provide powerful anti-inflammatory relief.
In addition to Quercetin, Q delivers a synergistic blend of 4 herbal extracts (rhodiola, ginseng, gingko biloba, and green tea), 8 essential vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, B6, C, D & E) and electrolytes (potassium and sodium citrates) to help with performance and recovery. We selected some ingredients because they make Quercetin more available and other ingredients because they are naturally awesome in their own right. Q Energy contains 35mg of caffeine, which is equal to a cup of green tea and less than a third of a cup of coffee. Health Canada recommends that healthy adults do not consume more than 400mg of caffeine per day, so you can still enjoy your coffee if you are going to take Q before your workout. As for sugar, Q Energy contains just under 4 grams of organic cane sugar. That is only 15 calories or the equivalent of a single teaspoon.
We decided not to add any chemicals or artificial stuff to help with dispersal. Sometimes, particularly with colder water, Q Energy powder does not disperse right away. We recommend putting Q Energy in your water bottle and shaking vigourously, Q Energy will disperse thoroughly, it just needs some encouragement. We figured a few extra shakes in a water bottle is way better than an artificial ingredient.
In these cases we recommend speaking to your health care provider before taking Q Energy. Health Canada requires a warning against consumption by pregnant women for any product whose ingredients have not been tested for safety during pregnancy. While there is no evidence that quercetin or any other ingredient in Q is harmful to pregnant women, quercetin has not yet been tested in this context. As such and in accordance with Health Canada's directive, Q Energy carries the cautionary warning. Please consult your health care practitioner if you wish to take Q Energy while pregnant or if you have any concerns.
We do not recommend Q Energy for infants or young children. Q Energy contains approximately the same amount of caffeine as an average cola but substantially less sugar. Health Canada offers guidelines for children's caffeine consumption. Health Canada also offers warnings about energy drinks with high caffeine levels. Q Energy contains only 35mg of caffeine and does not have additional 'unlabelled' caffeine content from herbal sources commonly found in other energy drinks like guarana, yerba mate, kola nut and the like. As a result, Q Energy does not fall into this 'high caffeine' category. All of which being said, we think that drink choices for children should be made by their parents.
